Let's be internet friends!

I promise I don't send a lot of email, I am not that organized. πŸ˜…

All of my paintings are based on real places I’ve explored firsthand.

My creative process begins outdoors, where I spend time immersed in the natural landscapeβ€”walking, observing, and sketching. These field sketches are not just visual notes, but emotional impressions that serve as the foundation for my finished studio work. I also take reference photographs to supplement the on-site sketches, but my primary goal is not to replicate a scene. Rather, I aim to capture the essence of how it feels to be there.

My work is rooted in expressionism rather than photorealism.

I am less concerned with precise representation and more focused on translating the emotional and sensory experience of being in nature. I use vibrant, often exaggerated color palettes and bold, gestural linework to build a hyper-saturated, dream-like interpretation of the landscape.

Each element is intentionally composed to evoke a particular mood or feelingβ€”whether it’s the calm stillness of a forest or the wild energy of a mountain trail.

Back in the studio, I work with fluid acrylics on wood panels.Β Each piece is an original, hand-painted work of art that reflects my ongoing exploration of the natural world and my emotional connection to it.

Since you have read the formal bio, here is a more causal about me πŸ€—

Things to know about me

I cuss like a sailor. I read a ton of books and love murder podcasts.

Being outside is my jam.Β  I love camping, hiking, backpacking, and riding my e-bike.

My paintings are based on real places.
I express the emotional experience rather than the physical reality of spending time in nature.

I don’t have formal art training;
my undergrad is in communications.
I spent almost a decade working in the non-profit world before becoming a professional artist.

I am currently (slowly) section hiking the Appalachian Trail. I have had multiple opportunities to be an artist in residence with the National Park Service, and it's my favorite thing ever.

I have 4 pieces from Jaime from over the last 10 years. Her work always speaks to me because of the nature component. When you find a piece that grabs you - GET IT!! Her passion and personality shines through all she does!!

I love Jaime’s work. I was fortunate enough to be gifted an original piece for Christmas last year from my husband and I have a couple prints scattered through my house. I enjoy her attention to details on different trees and love the colors she uses. Looking forward to the day I can get my hands on a larger piece, maybe even a round one. I just love the round ones.

I own one Jamie Barks original and one print. The print is excellent, but the original is my favorite piece!
